Hi! I’m Margot.
My story begins with Lu, the love of my life, who happens to be a deaf, “tripod” Pit Bull! I met Lu after she had been hit by a car and surrendered to Animal Control in my hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina. By some miracle, I happened to be the veterinary technician on staff that day to help with her front leg amputation.
After Lu woke up from surgery, I quickly realized she was not only the sweetest, most loving dog I had ever met, but also the most forgiving and resilient soul I had ever known.
Lu is one of many dogs that was able to have a second “lease” on life, with her life-saving amputation. After adopting her, however, I realized that even though I was an experienced vet assistant with copious amounts of clinical knowledge, I didn’t have the first clue about how to help a newly adopted dog adjust to a strange home, much less an amputation.
That’s where the LulaBean blog began - with the hope that, through my veterinary experience and personal pet-ownership knowledge, I would be able to share what I have learned with as many people as possible to help them become more confident, knowledgable pet parents.
Thank you for trusting me with your sweet furry friends, I can’t wait to get to know them!

Whether you’re a brand-new pet parent or you already have your own pack, adopting a new dog can bring more questions than answers - but that’s where I’m here to help!

No one wants to think their little love will ever get sick, but the reality is, it happens. While we can’t avoid accidents or illness, we can certainly do our best to educate ourselves on how to prevent and handle any health concerns that may arise.

Food is medicine! Dogs may be genetically very different from people, but they have equally important nutritional needs that must be met in order to live a long and healthy life.

The term “special needs dog” may sound intimidating, but for a dog that may be a little different from the rest, you could be their perfect match.
